Blanket weaving

Trying to do the impossible: Create a wedding gift that young things will like/use and have meaning.  So here is the beginning of "Sisterdale".  Sisterdale happens to be the place where the wedding will happen, so when I saw the name, I thought immediately of them.
There are woven panels, which I just finished.  Then they are crocheted together, and given a knitted edging.  The edging will be the boring never-ending part....
Gift in progress.
Today is the day I'm going to cut the panels.  Fingers crossed. I have all morning to do this, and then I have a (totally unrelated) wedding to play this afternoon.  First time I've played a church wedding in years!  Times are changing...

Wedding - Done; Gift - Not done

It's coming!  Now it's up to the bridegroom to give me the thumbs up or down about sizing.  Here's what they have, so far:

Three socks, two for bride which I am quite sure will fit, and a third sock for the groom.  I usually don't knit for men, so this was scary big...
The odd gimmick for these socks is that one sock in each pair has a knitted pocket on the leg that houses a compass. These young newly weds are athletic musicians, and biking is a big part of their lives.  I'm not sure the compass will stay in there, and if it doesn't, it's OK.  Not that useful, I suspect, just to go with the theme:  Find Your Way Home.
The pattern: Find Your Way Home by Wendy Gaal from Think Outside the Sox
The Yarn: Strumpfgarn TOM Cotton by Bärengarne, Fingering / 4 ply Wool, Nylon, Cotton, 454 yards / 100 grams
I knitted one sock with the pattern, and found the heel to be crazy-shaped.  After that, I ripped back and made them all according to how I thought they should be, with short-row heels.  I was on such a knitting tear to get them done (the fourth and final sock is up to the heel, and waiting) that I never bothered to examine the pattern.  It may be incorrect, or I can't read while rafting...

ANOTHER Anniversary!

Today is our Anniversary.  Forty years ago, on a bright sunny Western New York afternoon, we gathered many brave friends and relatives to celebrate the beginning of our marriage.  Yes, it was lovely, many people said, although I'm sure the talk we didn't hear included, "Who's Kahlil Gibran?"  The program/bulletin was hand typed with a few Peace symbols drawn in for good measure.  Afterall, Mick was a West Point Hell Cat at the time!
As self-professed hippies we insisted on a responsive reading from The Prophet, and a modern version of The Lord's Prayer which is seldom used today. (Pushing the envelope, our Pastor was afraid to say no!)
Knitter and long time friend, P, has constantly reminded me of the pain and suffering I put her through that day. Has there ever been an acceptable bridesmaid dress?  And Mick admits that's the last time we danced! (Ahem...)

 We went... on our honeymoon:
A. Florida
B. Vermont
C. Niagara Falls
D. Norway
Mick says, "What's with the mustache?"

Our daughter sent us something to commemorate the day:

Another souvenir that I won't be able to part with!  I'm sure she intends these to be expendable but she'll find these in a closet some day!! :-)
Thanks, everyone, for your friendship through the years! We couldn't have done it without you!!

Mother of the Bride

It's just beginning!

The day after the wedding, with pictures to sort through, and the good bye's being made. It's a happy day and a tearful day, as we part for another 2 months. It means a lot that I got to hold my daughter and squeeze my son-in-law, and pinch and carry my granddaughter. She started clapping her hands during the 3 day visit. What a cheerful baby!!

Family!

My FAMILY JUST GOT BIGGER ( I DON'T MEAN TO SHOUT IN ALL CAPS-I DON'T KNOW WHAT I DID TO MAKE IT SO.)  !  I MET HALVARD SEVEN YEARS AGO  HE WAS IN CAPE TOWN THEN.  HE HAS BEEN TO MY HOUSE FOR TWO CHRISTMASES, PILOTED OUR CRUISE THROUGH WALES, AND SENT OUR DAUGHTER FLYING OFF A CLIFF WITH A TOTAL STRANGER FOR HER BIRTHDAY.  HE HAS BEEN ATTACHED TO OUR DAUGHTER AND ONLY CHILD FOR NINE YEARS AND TODAY HE OFFICIALLY BECAME ONE OF US. HE HAS BEEN UNDER SCRUTINY SINCE WE FIRST KNEW OF HIS EXISTENCE AND HAS PASSED ALL THE TESTS.  HIS FINAL EXAM OF 11 DAYS OF "TABLE TENNIS" PROVED HE IS INDEED A FORCE TO BE RECKONED WITH AND EVER SO WORTHY OF OUR DAUGHTER'S HAND IN MARRIAGE.  (I'VE ALSO LOST THE CAPABILITY TO START A NEW PARAGRAPH.)  WELCOME TO THE HESSE/THOM CONTINUUM, HALVARD HAGESAETHER!

Norway

Had a wonderful time shopping with C after 20 hour journey with no
sleep. I must be excited or something. In two days I'll be mother of
the bride. Our mission today was to locate fine one time use china
which if I had thought or C had thought in time I could have purchased
at home. Norwegians are so proper that paper plates are for children
only. We found only pirates, princesses and Hannah M. None of those
being acceptable we shopped at the charity store and came home with 14
china cake plates for $15.
Tomorrow's mission: Double the cake we ordered. C is finding that
there are many more coming than she intended (like her MOTHER)!

Weather is as expected: Rain with intermittent drizzle. Photos to
follow! Nothing is going to dampen spirits. Champagne, everyone?
