Performance Venue

Lucky me!  I have flute friends!  Two of them ganged up on me, and I had two performances with them last week.
ME and I played a Bach Sonata for flute and harpsichord, and with the luck of our Italian/Irish heritages, we were allowed to use this very pretty instrument which found its way from Cleveland to Durango.

I'll just let you admire it...

And when I was finished with "that" Bach, I played a "Little Prelude and Fugue" on this lovely instrument:

Aren't I lucky to have flute friends, AND venues like this one?

This was taken a few days before the concert, and before the harpsichord was moved to center stage.
Thanks, ME and Scott, for asking me to play.

Need a gift?

I did, and often do...  What do you give a crafty friend?  You know that it doesn't have to fit, just be soft and a little clever!
Happy Birthday, Marty!

I had to show her what to do with it...and then she showed me!

Wrap of the decade...

A real Wrap-in-progress!
This is my Wrap Me Up that I knitted in 2008, as per instructions.  It was a long, wide scarf.  Too wide to wear around your neck, so it was a "wrap".  It didn't take me long to feel really warm and cozy around my shoulders, but it wouldn't cover much of my back, and none of my "backside".  And I felt chilly.  You can see all of the photos, from my first version, on Ravelry.

In 2010, I cut it in two.  Not exactly in half, because the blocks didn't split it in half, I sewed them together to make 90º, and it became more of a shawl/poncho combination. Above, the seam is at the thicker blue line on the left.  However, now one side is longer, as my dog (bad dog) is pointing out below.
Definitely wearable, and super warm, covers my "backside" nicely, but I still felt like tugging on it to compensate for the unevenness.
Step 2,041 (or so):  I found I had two of the same yarns in my stash, I added a third (the light blue), and I added on this piece.

I SOOOO loved the squiggly blue trim/line, so it was a no brainer that I would repeat that motif. And now, I have a shawl that is warm, relatively even in length, and fun to wear. 2008-2015, almost a decade--and it has changed less than the iPhone!

A decade from the past

Anyone recognize these?  The blue sheets are "airgrams".  A thing of the past, I believe.
They are super thin sheets of paper which are folded, and licked, into an envelope with writing on it. It's the hippie 70's version of email!  The only thing we could afford.  In Norway it cost 20¢, double that if you used paper and envelope, to send anywhere in the world!  I didn't realize how prolific my husband was until this bundle showed up.  They are his letters to his parents mostly from 1978-1983 and they are amazing... A perfect diary of our lives.
Somewhere there is another stack which is my writings to my parents, and someday, I'll pull them out.  I sorted this pile by date, I think.  I found that we were remiss in writing the YEAR on our correspondence.  How COULD we?  I thought it was only my husband that did that, but a few of mine are in this pile and I didn't write years, either.  Somehow, I'm sure from the tidbits of activities reported, I managed to make guesses at the years, and some day.... I would like to type them in and make a real diary, in printed book form.  I'll have to lock myself away to do it, and then someone will have to lock me up!
I found information about plans we made and didn't follow up on, and things we did that neither of us remembered, and all kinds of things of interest only to me!  Remember when "Dynasty" was a big deal?

On my needles

Yummy, little stitches... of a pattern I'm making up as I go.
First, I buy the yarn.  Can't resist:  When at WEBS, most things are yummy.  And the color, "Byzantine", is a coppery red.  It's Madeline Tosh Merino Light, and I bought it having no plans. Then one day, last November, I couldn't keep my hands off of it, so I started a shawl with a beautiful lace pattern.  Other projects got started and finished and in January I picked up a second skein and started this project.  I "was" using a pattern, for the sleeves, but the bodice was too lacy, too open for my liking, and it took a friend asking about a stitch dictionary (which I had forgotten I had) that made me open my Stitch "Bible" and select this motif.  It will need a camisole underneath, and will be perfect for chilly weather.   HURRY!

Two sleeves done, and 1/3 of the back.  One of three projects I have on needles.

Patience

Knitting...  Most people say, "I don't have the patience to knit."  I say they aren't obsessive enough to knit!   (Big smile!  You know I'm right!)
Orchids... Most people don't have the patience to let an orchid blossom a second, third or fourth time.  I almost don't... and I swear my orchid knows when I'm at the end of my rope.  It sits there for months, and I check it every week or so.  I move it from the window, to a cooler place, and back to the window, and away from the window... then one day, I say to it, "That's enough!  Out you go.  I'll find someone else to take your place."  I look at it sadly and let it go one more week, and surprisingly I find a stem-- or TWO!  What a reward.  Now I just have to wait another month or so before I see flowers.
Patience...

I'll report on it later.
By the way, I killed it's buddy plant.  I mean the leaves fell off... too much or too little love, I guess.  Now I don't even know what color I'm going to get!

Fuzz

De-pilling a sweater.  Isn't it a beauty?  Did I knit it?  No.  Why do you ask?
I purchased this sweater years ago, and absolutely love it.  It's from Christopher & Banks, and needed a little work.  I used little scissors and snipped away the pills.  Tedious, but the only way with which I'm comfortable.  Looks new!
Do you have a de-pilling method to share?
